Yes. We regularly service Whirlpool, GE, LG, Samsung, Frigidaire, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch, Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, and Kenmore appliances. If your brand isn't listed, call us anyway — if it plugs in and something's wrong, we can usually help.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. 1 Hour Appliance is fully licensed and insured for residential appliance repair in Louisiana. Repair work is quoted up front at a flat rate and approved by you before a single screw is turned.
Can I get same-day appliance repair in Baton Rouge?
Same-day service is available in most cases based on technician availability. The fastest way to find out is to call or text 225-327-2120 — we'll give you today's real arrival window instead of an all-day guess. Appointments are available Monday through Saturday, 8am to 6pm.
We diagnose and repair all major residential appliances: refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges and ovens, microwaves, ice machines, and garbage disposals. Our trucks carry common parts, so most repairs are completed on the first visit.
Diagnostic fees, pricing, and warranty
How much is the diagnostic fee?
Our weekday diagnostic, Monday through Saturday, is $99. Weekend, holiday, and after-hours diagnostics start at $149. If we diagnose and repair the appliance during the same visit, the diagnostic fee is applied toward the repair — you don't pay twice for the trip.
Yes, when the repair happens during the initial visit. If a part has to be ordered or additional labor is needed, the diagnostic covers that first visit only, and the repair is quoted separately before any additional work is performed. There are no hidden fees — every price is approved by you first.
What warranty comes with a repair?
Repairs using parts we source and install carry a 90-day parts and labor warranty. If the same issue returns within 90 days of your service date, we come back and make it right at no additional cost. The warranty covers the parts replaced and the labor on that repaired failure — not new or unrelated problems, misuse, or power surges.
Do you install customer-supplied parts?
In most cases, yes. The key difference is the warranty: our 90-day parts and labor warranty only covers parts we source and install. If a customer-supplied part fails, additional labor may apply to replace it again.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, Venmo, CashApp, and cash. Payment is due at the time of service. For larger repairs, financing with monthly payment plans is available for qualifying customers — ask your technician for a simple, no-pressure quote.
Do you charge a trip charge?
Our trip charge is $25, and it only applies outside our normal service area. Within Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Gonzales, Prairieville, Walker, Central, Zachary, Watson, and the immediately surrounding communities, there is no separate trip charge.
Refrigerator and freezer problems
Why is my refrigerator running but not cooling?
The most common causes are dirty condenser coils, a door gasket that no longer seals, blocked interior vents, an accidental thermostat change, or a failing evaporator fan or compressor start component. You can safely confirm the fridge has power, check the breaker, verify the thermostat setting, and gently vacuum the coils underneath or behind the unit. If it still isn't cooling after those checks, it's time for a technician — the remaining parts sit inside the sealed system.
That pattern usually points to an airflow problem rather than the cooling system itself. In most frost-free refrigerators, cold air is made in the freezer and moved to the fresh-food side by an evaporator fan and damper. If that fan fails or frost blocks the airflow channel, the freezer stays cold while the refrigerator warms up. Check that interior vents aren't blocked by food and listen for the fan. A technician should handle anything involving the sealed system.
For food safety, keep the refrigerator at or below 40°F and the freezer at 0°F. If the fridge compartment feels warm but the freezer is still frozen solid, that's a classic sign of an airflow or fan problem rather than a total cooling failure. Avoid overpacking the shelves so air can circulate.
Why is my freezer building up frost?
Frost usually means moist air is getting in or the automatic defrost system isn't doing its job. Check the door gasket for tears or gaps, make sure the door closes fully — an overstuffed freezer can hold it slightly open — and limit how often it's opened, especially on humid Louisiana days. Heavy frost that returns quickly after a manual defrost usually points to a failed defrost component, which a technician can confirm and replace.
Washer problems
Why won't my washer drain?
The usual suspects are a clogged drain pump filter, a kinked or blocked drain hose, a lid switch that isn't registering as closed, or a drain pump that has failed. Safe checks: straighten the drain hose, make sure the lid closes completely, and rebalance a lopsided load before running a drain-and-spin cycle again. If water still stands in the tub, the pump or its filter needs attention from a technician.
A washer that drains but won't spin commonly has an unbalanced load, a worn drive belt or coupling, a faulty lid switch or door lock, or a motor problem. First redistribute the laundry evenly and run a spin cycle with the lid fully closed. If the tub still won't turn, schedule service — drive components vary a lot between brands and are best left to a technician.
On electric dryers, the most common causes are a tripped breaker — dryers use a double breaker, and one half can trip while the drum still tumbles — a blown thermal fuse, a failed heating element, or a clogged vent. On gas dryers, a closed gas valve or a failed igniter produces the same symptom. Safe checks: reset both halves of the dryer's breaker, clean the lint screen, and check the vent hose for kinks. Heating parts live inside the cabinet, so leave those to a technician.
Long dry times are almost always an airflow problem. A lint screen caked with residue, a crushed or clogged vent hose, or lint buildup in the vent line restricts airflow, so moisture can't escape. Clean the lint screen after every load and check the vent hose for kinks. A restricted dryer vent is also a fire hazard, so if cleaning the visible hose doesn't fix it, have the full vent run cleaned or book a technician.
Standing water is usually caused by a clogged filter at the bottom of the tub, a kinked drain hose, a clogged air gap, or — on newer installations — a knockout plug still in place in the garbage disposal's drain inlet. Safe checks: rinse out the removable filter, run the garbage disposal before the cycle, and inspect the hose for kinks. If water still remains, the drain pump or check valve likely needs a technician.
On electric ovens, a failed bake or broil element or a tripped breaker is typical. On gas ovens, a weak igniter is the most common culprit — it may glow but never open the gas valve. Safe checks: confirm the breaker is on, look at whether the element glows, and make sure the gas valve behind the range is open. Never work inside a gas appliance, and if you ever smell gas, leave the house and call your gas company from outside.
No. Microwave capacitors can hold a dangerous electrical charge even after the unit is unplugged. There are no safe homeowner repairs inside a microwave cabinet — not for a dead keypad, a no-heat complaint, or sparking. If your microwave sparks, smells like burning, or won't heat, stop using it and book a technician.
Ice maker and garbage disposal problems
Why isn't my ice maker making ice?
Start with the water supply: make sure the shut-off valve behind the refrigerator is open, the supply line isn't kinked, and the freezer is cold enough — around 0°F. Check that the bail arm or shutoff switch is in the on position, and replace the water filter if it's overdue. If all of that checks out, the water inlet valve or the ice maker module itself has usually failed, which is a technician repair.
A humming disposal usually has something jammed in the grinding chamber. Never reach inside with your hand. First, switch the disposal off at the wall or breaker, then try the red reset button on the bottom of the unit. Many manufacturers include a small hex (Allen) key that fits a socket under the disposal to free a jam. If it still only hums, the motor or flywheel needs service — and if it leaks from the base, the unit typically needs replacement.
Repair or replace?
When is an appliance worth repairing instead of replacing?
A common rule of thumb: if the repair costs less than half of replacing the appliance and the unit is still within its expected lifespan, repair usually wins. Refrigerators often last 10–15 years, washers and dryers around 10–13, and dishwashers roughly 9–10. You don't have to guess, though — we quote flat-rate pricing up front, so you can compare the repair quote against the cost of a new appliance before approving any work.
Every visit starts with a diagnostic — $99 on weekdays, starting at $149 on weekends, holidays, and after hours — and the diagnostic is applied toward the repair when it's completed in the same visit. Labor is flat-rate and quoted before we start, and parts are priced fairly and approved before installation. You'll never see a surprise number on the invoice.

Quick Check is our free AI troubleshooting assistant. You pick the appliance, add the brand and model if you know them, and describe the problem in your own words. It walks you through simple checks one or two at a time — breakers, GFCI outlets, door latches, power resets, control locks — and a technician is always one tap away if you'd rather not troubleshoot. It's a good first step, not a full diagnosis.
When should I skip troubleshooting and just book a technician?
Skip the troubleshooting and call us if you smell gas, see sparking, notice a burning smell, have water leaking near electrical components, or simply don't feel comfortable doing the check. Quick Check only covers safe, simple steps — gas appliances, live electrical work, refrigerant systems, and microwave internals always belong to a qualified technician.
